The State of Mind is an established and renowned Myotherapy clinic, providing quality pain care to the local community since 2017.

Polly Bongiorno is a qualified Myotherapist and Yoga Teacher, and creatively combines these skills to her role as a Pain Coach to provide multifaceted Whole Person-Pain Care.

Polly’s evidence-based interventions are based on current scientific research and theories, as well as being psychologically-informed (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing) and trauma informed.

Polly takes a Bio-Psycho-Social approach to her work, meaning that she considers not only the physical body when treating pain, but expands her clinical lens to include the Whole Person. This includes the complex and dynamic interplay between a person’s biology, psychology, mental health, relationships, profession, lifestyle, spirituality, life experiences, trauma and more.

Polly also considers Pain from a philosophical lens - pain as a multi-faceted lived experience that is felt by a human who is embedded and extended in their environment, which in turn shapes the nature of their experience. Pain changes the way we interact with our self and our environment - it affects the opportunities available to us in any given moment. One singular present moment pain experience both intricately ties us to our past and at the same times embeds us with our future self - our hopes and fears for our future.

Polly works closely with other local health professionals (GPs, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, personal trainers and remedial massage therapists) to ensure that you receive quality care at all times.

The space

Our clinic has been intentionally designed to feel safe and secure, so you can feel relaxed and comfortable, even at your most vulnerable.

At The State Of Mind, the aim is to provide both immediate and long lasting relief from painful and uncomfortable experiences. We treat both acute and chronic conditions stemming from musculoskeletal injury and dysfunction, and their associated emotional, mental and trauma responses.  Our goal is to help foster enhanced awareness of the complexity surrounding a pain experience, help you actively seek out opportunities for learning to enhance resistance and growth, and to help facilitate relief from and management of painful symptoms, both in the short and long term.

Whole Person Pain Care deeply explores the whole-person experience of pain - placing equal emphasis upon the physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual elements of the big business of Being Human. Likewise, we are also acutely aware of the highly individual and personal nature of pain and customise and tailor our interventions accordingly to each person.
